They are amazed when he comes to them and tells them to show themselves to the priests. They priests banished them and only the priests can declare them clean. In this way Christ kept the law. Like lepers, we cannot convince the priest we are clean. The law demands perfection. The Gospel must come to bear and drive away our sin. We are made clean by Jesus Christ.
